The band was formed in July
1998 and that with the first unofficial meeting in room 410 in student campus
Rožna dolina, Ljubljana. The name KarČeš brass band (whatever you want brass
band) comes from a simple fact that we, at the beginning, played all sorts
and types of music. From to all known folk musician Avsenik over traditional
gipsy songs, songs from cartoons, to arrangements of Metallica; so - whatever
you want. And the -BRASS BAND ending, that every honest band puts it in
its name means, that this is a group with brass instruments (go figure)
.
At the very beginning the Kar Češ brass band was: Marko Obid - tuba, Sebastjan
& Erik Jermol - trumpet, Tadej Bizjak - saxophone and Alen Bogataj on
drums. After 4 months of its existence Ana Mlakar on flute had joined the
group. After a year of intensive rehearsals, we had our first stage debut
on the opening concert of youth club C.M.A.K in front of old youth hostel
in Cerkno. In year 2001 Ana left our band, so we played for a short period
of time in our original set up. 'cause we played more and more in our street
version, there came a need for another percussionist on bass drum, which
role was accepted by Matija Purgar. After arrival of our third percussionist
Primož Podobnik, tuba player Rok Šinkovec, the man on trumpet Florjan from
Šebrelje and when our oldest member Erik Jermol left (off course not because
of his age) tha Brass Band finally formed its present figure, which is consisted
out of 8 members. This year goes our seventh year by, since we had our first
public appearance. And since then weve heated up quite a few parties, picnics
and if you would look thoroughly, you could also find some wedding in between.
In all this time weve reduced our versatile repertoire, so that at this
moment we look for our inspiration mostly in street jazz of New Orleans,
evergreen melodies of former Yugoslav republic and distilled products of
home fruit.
